Mental health services for young adults - Sydney

The Sydney Clinic offers Young Adult mental health services specifically designed to support the needs of people between the ages of 18-25 years.

Most mental health disorders start to emerge between the teenage years into the mid-20s. Young people can experience a number of issues including depression, anxiety, and the early signs of other general mental health and mood-based disorders.

Early intervention and treatment in the initial stages of a mental illness is critical to preventing or reducing the progress of the illness and its consequences.

Treatment may include psychosocial or pharmacological interventions, an inpatient stay or ongoing support in a community-based setting.

The Sydney Clinic offers both inpatient and outpatient mental health services and treatments for young adults at its Bronte-based beachside facility.

Managing Moods for Young Adults – Mental Health Day Program

The Managing Moods for Young Adults day program aims to support young people to improve and maintain their mental health through psycho-education, awareness and practical skills delivered in full-day, weekly sessions.

Incorporating a range of evidence-based and best practice therapeutic approaches, the program focuses on managing mental health related symptoms and supporting young adults to create a meaningful life through social connectedness. This is done in a community-based, group setting alongside other people who may be experiencing something similar.

The Managing Moods for Young Adults day program is run on a weekly basis for 12 weeks, you can join any time. These structured sessions are facilitated by mental health professionals who encourage a safe and supportive environment.

The program has been designed to help participants to:

  • Develop effective coping skills
  • Understand and manage anxiety and depressive symptoms
  • Build awareness of barriers to social engagement and connection
  • Communicate more effectively (i.e. set boundaries or enhance relationships)
  • Cope with change
  • Understand and manage emotions
  • Explore your values
  • Better cope with impacts of social media on mental health
  • Support the development of a healthy identity and gain greater self-awareness

Who can attend the Young Adult day program?

The program is open to anyone between the ages of 18-25 years experiencing mental health challenges. You do not need to have had a hospital stay at The Sydney Clinic to attend our Young Adult day program.

However, following discharge from hospital, some people may choose to attend a day program to help put the skills and strategies learned during their hospital stay into practice as they return to their home environment.
